Las nuevas tecnologías junto con el intento de convertir en una propiedad tradicional algo etéreo e inapropiable como es la propiedad intelectual han acelerado el choque de las leyes con prácticas cotidianas y socialmente aceptadas. Mientras la industria discográfica y cinematográfica luchan por mantener los planteamientos clásicos de la propiedad intelectual, nuevas corrientes buscan reformularla removiendo sus cimientos. Las descargas de Internet desde redes P2P, las licencias copyleft y conceptos como “inteligencia colectiva” comienzan a ser un lenguaje habitual en ciertos sectores concienciados de que la cultura se defiende compartiéndola. Esta sesión presentará los problemas y algunas de las soluciones propuestas por las dos partes del conflicto.

New technologies, together with the attempt to turn something ethereal and impossible to hoard, such as intellectual property, have sped up the collision of law with everyday and socially-acceptable practise. While the music and film industries fight for the permanence of the classic notions of intellectual property, new movements are looking for ways of re-formulating and undermining them. P2P downloads, copyleft licences and notions such as "collective intelligence" are starting to become part of everyday language in certain areas, committed to the idea that the way to defend culture is by sharing it. This session will present the problems and some of the proposed solutions by both sides in the conflict.
